Regulations on Pocket Bag Fabric for Blue Denim Apparel

Starting on January 1, 2023, there will be rules about the fabric used for pockets in certain types of blue denim clothing. This fabric must be made from yarn that was produced in at least one of the following countries: the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

There are similar rules that started in January 2022 for other types of clothing with pockets. These rules are part of the United States-Mexico-Canada Free Trade Agreement (USMCA). Clothing that is imported into these countries that follows these rules may get a special tariff rate.

Companies who claim that their clothing follows these rules are subject to verification. However, if the verifications are deemed not true, the company will not get the special tariff rate and may be issued penalties.
